You folks who complain about the sound quality need to appreciate that AUD tapes from this run had to be covert; the band was recording for the Reckoning
...
and Dead Set albums. Audience taping had to be concealed. Given that, this is a pretty good recording. Yes, it is a little thin in signal strength, but there is clarity, presence, and the quality that I call "snap." That means you can hear all the instruments and vocals distinctly, crisply, and cleanly.
The performances here are fairly typical of the entire run. The acoustic set is golden. The electric set has its moments, but fails to really "soar."

I usually grade the performance, not the recording, so I give this show a 4: I love the acoustic sets of September and October that formed Reckoning. This
...
one is good, but there are better ones. The electic sets on this show are pretty good as well. These accostic sets revived old songs that the Dead hadn't played in 10 years. In the second set, they play Beat It On Down the Line, an oldie that was on the first Dead album and not played much in the 1970's.
While the fidelity of the recording isn't bad, the audience is too loud -- it sometimes completely drowns out the band during the accoustic set. It improves later in the show.

I never thought I'd give a 5-star review to an audience recording -- but this one rivals some soundboards for quality. And the setlist is mind-boggling:
...
it's all here.

...but poor sound. So sorry this review is not more positive. Great list lots of energy but really,I will save you some time by saying that this show is
...
not listenable...yes... its non listenable in my very strong opinion. The crowd over powers the band beyond my ability to hear the band.
Very strong list, wish there were a board....

Oh, man do I agree with the superiority of these mixed shows. IMO the Dead are at their best accoustic, but they wouldn't be the Dead without electric,
...
spacey jamming! Bird Song is so captivating, Rosalie McFall is invigorating, and a good Monkey opener never hurts.
Crowd is somewhat louder in this recording. For those that enjoy this setting (like me!), this is one for the collection!
Vocals are really great for '80, and the Brokedown closer is a nice touch.

Well guys, (and i mean everyone) this is a show where in which the sound quality and set-list material are so good that i had to address my astonishment
...
that i am the first to review it. The good people in the dead family are gonna make this a dick's picks when they get their shit together and then the obvious pointing and blaming game will ensue. Well i hope your happy guys, you f#ckin' blew it. By the way.....wear shoes with good traction because this stuff gets slippery. And when i say slippery i mean it's dangerous. Highly addictive if you will.
